Birthday Girls.

A couple of my girlfriend's daughters have birthdays on the same day, just a year apart. Since we're in tough economic times over here, I resorted to my go-to gift for little girls, a Black Apple Doll by the talented Emily Martin. I would like to say that since this was the 4th and 5th time making these that I had worked out all the kinks and mishaps that required the seam ripper that past 3 times, but no such luck. I always manage to screw up something. Ah well, I still love making them. The little girls I have gifted them to in the past really seem to like them, so hopefully little Ava (turning 2) and little Irene (turning 1) will enjoy them too!

I thought it would be fun to make these two slightly matchy matchy since they are going to two little girls who share a birthday.

  2. I know what ya mean by the ripping out process! It doesn't matter how many times I make something, I inevitably have some ripping to do. They really are cute dolls! I'm proud of ya! Nothing better than homemade!!

  3. super cute dolls! For ice cream, I love david lebovitz's book the perfect scoop. His website/blog also has some recipes. this one is my favorite all time. http://www.davidlebovitz.com/archives/2007/04/salted_butter_c.html, I also use the recipes from everyday food: http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/easy-chocolate-ice-cream + added dark chocolate cocoa powder instead of regular to make dark chocolate. Good luck!
